Shouting match with delegates

John Kneuer, the assistant secretary for communications and information, quickly lost his temper and began shouting back at Supernova 2007 attendees after taking flack for saying the free market - not government intervention - would protect internet innovation and access.

And this is the same John Kneuer who runs NTIA that backs the heavy regulatory apparatus called ICANN?

Is ICANN a pinnacle of free market economics? No, it's a government backed guild.

Kneuer and NTIA, via ICANN, are imposing a most heavy-handed, regressive, incumbent protective, and anti-innovative regime onto the internet.

So what's all this protestation by Kneuer about free marketplaces? He and his agency seem to be driven by context. When it serves NTIA to protect internet incumbents NTIA takes on the mantle of a Soviet era 5-year planner and tells us we have to take the ICANN drug. When it comes to protecting telco incumbents, NTIA gets out its free market cowboy hat and goes yee-haw.
