I think that Apple is a good example of a company who started as an innovator and then as they aged they became just one more large corporate parasite.
Apple has continued to show a stellar ability to package beautifully and market effectively. That their products are not particularly innovative doesn't seem to matter much to the market.I don't like closed platforms either. But the open systems world has been
ineffective at packaging products and marketing them to consumers. For example, Unix platform vendors seem to treat each other as the competition, rather than Microsoft and Apple. They also seem to miss the key requirement for the desktop: applications.
When challenged on this point, they dismiss the issue by saying thatapplications can be accessed over the web. This limits the market to those with high-bandwidth, fulltime access and a willingness to share all one's
personal data with a third-party service. Some of us find that model a tad limiting. d/ -- Dave Crocker Brandenburg InternetWorking bbiw.net -------------------------------------------
