Subject: [IP] iPhone: giving up.
Begin forwarded message: From: Sean Berry <berry@housebsd.org> Date: July 10, 2007 4:04:41 PM EDT To: dave@farber.net Subject: iPhone: giving up. Dave:I gave up on the iPhone. I loved its interface, I -loved- how easy it made showing off photos. I hated trying to get exactly 6GB of music onto it, but I figure that'll be fixed in iTunes 7.3.1.
Generally: it's a great iPod, but the continual treatment at every turn by both Apple and ATT Wireless made it easy for me to return the device:
1. mandatory contract extensions (on both lines if you have a previous device you want to keep using)
2. arbitrary fees and more expensive data plans3. downright rude "those are our policies, and if you want an iPhone, you'll agree to them" treatment from a AT&T Wireless store managers and phone personnel
It's a nice phone: I liked it, and I'll miss it. But the position this new device put me in, powerless between my phone vendor and my wireless company, with neither of them able to help any parameter of this devil's agreement, was ultimately not acceptable.
There was a spring in my step as I left the store, and switched back to using my Nokia e61.
