I dont know if this has been covered on your list, but this Goggle Talk was recently forwarded to me by a friend on the east coast. (I did see a "cold fusion" set of notes back in early 2006 in my file of IP-List, but thats different work as far as i can tell.)
Its about Inertial confinement Electric Fusion. The inventor is Dr. James Bussard, inventor of the Bussard Interstellar Ramjet (which despite the name, was acutally a serious paper written in 1974). Anyway, he's moved on (and died late last year actually). However the work is pretty interesting.
The video is 90 minutes long and I found it fascinating to watch.
This doesnt *look* that expensive to pursue as serious science. (Way cheaper than many things currently funded anyway, and potentially, high payoff). But I only was a physics major for a couple of years, so there's probably more to it than meets the eye.
