Apparently, my guesses as to why the UC students obtained the
results they did from their flawed experiment were not right on the
mark, but close. The students now report that they were accessing
Comcast's network through their own NAT router (possibly one with
DoS protection), and that the router apparently began to generate
RST packets as it protected itself from NAT table overflows due to
the SYN flood. (This is another example of a legitimate reason to
use RST packets to cut off connections.)
