Subject: [IP] Warning re: "FBI spying on Facebook" link come-ons

One of the more obnoxious of the spam-based worm/virus lures -- which lately has turned to using a variety of alarming-sounding "in the news" type subject texts, is now spewing forth a variety of text on the general theme of "FBI is spying on Facebook users" -- "FBI wants instant access to Facebook" -- "Facebook under attack by FBI" -- and so on. These messages, all extremely short, may point at a text URL or a purely numeric IP address URL. Regardless of what the FBI is or isn't doing in relation to Facebook, readers are urged to resist the temptation to explore any of the links presented by this nasty bot, which is becoming increasingly sophisticated in its choice of lure subjects. --Lauren-- Lauren Weinstein lauren@vortex.com or lauren@pfir.org Tel: +1 (818) 225-2800 http://www.pfir.org/lauren Co-Founder, PFIR - People For Internet Responsibility - http://www.pfir.org Co-Founder, NNSquad - Network Neutrality Squad - http://www.nnsquad.org Founder, PRIVACY Forum - http://www.vortex.com Member, ACM Committee on Computers and Public Policy Lauren's Blog: http://lauren.vortex.com -------------------------------------------
