Subject: Comcast DOCSIS 3.0 Launches, More Speed @ Same Price
Dave -
I wouldn't normally fwd a product announcement to you for consideration
of the IP list. But this one announces the details of our expected
DOCSIS 3.0 ("wideband") launch, which is a pretty big technological
change in the network, and offers much higher speeds initially, and the
promise of much higher speeds over time.
I also think it relates to some of the recent IP list discussion about
the state of the economy. The relation there is that the large majority
of our customer base will be getting double the speed they do today, at
no additional cost. :-) For example, a 6Mbps/1Mbps (down/up) customer
will go to 12Mbps/2Mbps, and an 8Mbps/2Mbps customer goes to
16Mbps/2Mbps.
As many people know, we're rolling out DOCSIS 3.0 starting now, through
2009, and into the early part of 2010. The nice thing about the network
is that once an area is upgraded to this new wideband technology it is
available to any of the homes we pass or serve.
