That's a patently untrue statement. Palm Treo's were open to the full range of Palm applications, which were downloaded directly by users, not via an App store. Blackberrys are the same way - even though they now have an App store, the majority of Blackberry Apps are downloaded directly from developer or vendor web sites (and Blackberry Apps are simply Java, with fairly deep access to the phone's capabilities). From: Nic Pottier <nicpottier@gmail.com>3. Draconian App Store policies that are, frankly, insultingFirst off, one has to realize that Apple is vastly more open and provides far more opportunity to individual developers than any other platform. Although they weren't the first to have an on device app store, they are the first really popular phone to have one, and the first to exercise very little control over the content of said store. Yes, a few things are off limits, but name me another platform that has near the number of apps.
