I don't want to create a screed to refute a screed, but a couple of points
are worth mentioning:

I'd agree that the right has a more effective (or perhaps a better phrase
is more pervasive) messaging infrastructure -- it's been that way at least
since my think-tank and editorial-board days 20 years ago. But rather than
being some sort of knockout blow, it's been an offset to the left's
historic strongholds in voter registration, get-out-the-vote efforts and
popular culture influences. As in so many areas of endeavor, competitors
evolve skills that give them unique advantages.

Are some people bedazzled and boondoggled by slick messaging campaigns?
Yes. But a significant number of people simply don't trust our
governmental institutions anymore and will, all things considered, put
their trust in almost any other option before they hand over more control
or more funds to a government they view as ineffective and not working in
their interests.

You can argue that those same Sinister Corporate Interests created this
environment -- and maybe, at some level, they did. But not by themselves.

We didn't get to today's level of polarized, research-driven and
destructive political discourse because a bunch of corporate money and
right-wing hacks drug us there, kicking and screaming, all by themselves.
There's more to it than that, and to suggest otherwise is wildly
simplistic.
