What a bunch of bloviating nonsense; doesn't this Kat have anything better
to do than open a vein and bleed into his (or her) keyboard?  I suppose at
some point you can put lipstick on this threadbare "advertising is evil;
you're all mass market idiots" pig and call it an intellectual argument, but
that ain't happening in this rambling screed.

This same message has been written (better) a thousand and one times, excuse
me while I choke back that little bit of bile that crept into my throat as I
read this.

Advertising isn't the problem and American's aren't all fools.   At best
they are apathetic; at worst  self-absorbed narcissists (yes, that's an
oxymoron, I wanted to see if you were paying attention...)

Most of us wake up and go to bed having just tried to make it through the
day without fucking things up and we're happy that we have a job to go the
next morning.  Most of us lead spectacularly ordinary lives and most of us
don't give a rats ass what the clowns in Congress are doing or not
doing--until something lands on our doorstep:  you lose your job, suddenly
you're all energized about jobs programs, unemployment benefits, COBRA
subsidies;  your son is killed by an IED fighting to preserve a ginned up
democracy that no one wanted and still doesn't want; your kid dies from an
overdose, your wife and kid are mangled beyond recognition in a car accident
having been blind-sided by a drunk driver; you go broke having spent every
last cent you've ever earned or saved on medical treatments trying to keep
your kid alive because your health "insurance" stopped paying the bill years
ago when you "hit the cap" and you're just shit of luck now... Next.

And those things land on our doorstep every day but not in enough numbers to
REALLY CHANGE THINGS because most of us believe "it'll never happen to me"
and that things will just "keep on keeping on" no matter who controls the
White House.  A $1.4 trillion budget deficit?  Who cares?  It's not like the
U.S. is going to fold up tomorrow; you'll get your paycheck, I'll get mine
and my neighbor his... But if there were a law that said, "if the budget
deficit tops $1.5 trillion the nation will stop broadcasting all cable and
TV shows until such time as..." there would be a populist revolt of massive
proportions (let's lay aside the myriad constitutional problems with that
example, you get my point).

When I took my 18,000-plus mile trip across this country I talked to
hundreds of "just plain folks" in every nook and cranny of nearly every
state.  People would tell me about their church, their kids, their job,
their land or their prize bull before politics ever got laid on the table,
and most the time, it just never came up... And this was during an
congressional election cycle!

Look what happened when a fraction of the electorate got off their
collective ass and became in engaged in the political process... Historic.

So forget all this bullshit about "I am your enemy" and "you're all fools,"
what condescending white noise.  Things will change when people start caring
about the state of this country past the next commercial break. End of
story.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming...

Meeks out...

No One Is Going To Save You Fools

You-Fools>

Before I explain the generic insult, let me first make something perfectly
clear: I am your enemy.  That you don't know this is understandable: after
all, people like me prefer it that way.  But until you understand just what
you're up against and why, you're going to continue to lose, and look like
fools in the process.

Barack Obama has indeed sold you out.  He and many of his Democratic
colleagues have sold you out on healthcare, and they've sold you out on
financial reform.  You were looking for a savior, and you've been had--not an
altogether atypical result for those looking for a strong leader to "save"
them.

He hasn't done this because he's a bad guy.  In fact, he's a great guy.  I
think he's doing pretty much the best job he can.  He's sold you out because
he's not afraid of you.  And really, if I may be so bold, he shouldn't be
afraid of you.  You don't know who really runs the show, and you're far too
fickle and manipulable to count on.

The first thing you need to understand about healthcare reform is what Jane
Hamsher identified long ago:nothing--absolutely nothing--is going to trump the
White House's deal with PhRMA and the insurance industry.  The question you
need to ask yourselves is: why?  If you're intellectually mature enough to get
past "personal betrayal" as your best answer, you'll be on the right track.

While you ponder that one, you might want to also consider why nothing has
been done--nor will anything serious actually be done--about financial
industry reform.  Standing up to the financial industry in the current
political environment should be a no-brainer.  So what in the heck is going on
here?  If you can think past shadowy conspiracy theories and possible personal
enrichment for the Obama family, you'll be doing the kind of thinking that
will help actually solve the problem.
